three to go...

I'm sitting in my "villa" at Fairfield Glade and washing clothes as we begin our final week here at the Sound of Music at the Cumberland County Playhouse.  It has been an interesting run, very good for the most part, I feel.  We've gotten good reviews and my colleagues never cease to amaze me on stage with speed of thought, playing the moment, and throughline.

The biggest surprise and blessing has been to find the church I've found in First Presbyterian Crossville.  From the first Sunday back in January, everyone has been so welcoming and warm.  I've made many good friends here that I believe I'll be in touch with for years to come.  I've been welcomed into their homes, fed, taken out to lunch and diinner, and then-as I began to have some housing problems-homes were opened up to me and I've stayed in two families' homes during my time here.  Truly amazing.

The pianist and choir director have ended up being the parents of someone I was friends with at Brevard Music Center in 1978 as well being on the faculty when I was there.  Quite providential,  when you add that the Pastor went to school with my buddy Louis Otey's son and knows BJ very well (BJ took a church out in Montana after graduating for Covenant).

Also, Pleasant Hill has brought me close friends in the Disselers and one Jeanne Kingsbury, a dear lady who opened up her home to Deb and me when the show opened (Lindy is allergic to MacGregor).  I've stayed with her for most of my time here, and she taken a special place in my heart.  The whole area has become very near and dear to me during my stint here as the Captain.

Thank you Jim-Weslie-Ron-Katy-Kara-and all my children.  Each night we've made magic, I think, and I hope you feel the same way.

daisy, assassins, and jekyll and hyde

I'm hiding in the boardroom of CCP trying to get caught up on my email.  Had a great day with a certain young lady in Knoxville named Laura.  She is growing up into a wonderful young woman, and it was great to have lunch with her and give her some stuff her Mama wanted to have.

Now I'll head back to Pleasant Hill and see what's up over there.

ch ch ch ch changes....

back in crossville after a wonderful opening weekend and trip back to memphis for valentine's day.  there is a possibility that I will be moving out of this wonderful lake house but I have said I would like to stay.  There was a concern that I wanted someplace where deb and mac could come but that's not as important as sleeping and it's too loud over at the big house.  we'll see what happens...in the meantime, i am having a great time here and can't wait til saturday to do this again.

We're about to go stage the festival scene, and I've given a lesson to one of the Rolfs today.  I have some pictures of some goats and sheepdogs I want to post from my trip to Crossville today-they're perfect for the lonely goatherd.

I pray that my allergies to dust and mold will clear up a little bit and that the mold and dust will go away to the degree that I can control that.  I also pray for a good rehearsal tonight...

rain? Again?

It's another rainy day here in Crossville, but rehearsals are going well.  My castmates are all wonderful, and I'm really thinking is going to be good.  The director is superb, and the concept is working so far-it's going to be a bit darker than your average Sound of Music.  This lake out the back of the house I'm in is beautiful-I hope I get to get out on it soon and enjoy the woods.  More about flying squirrels later.

p.s. I forgot to rotate the picture.  Sorry...:)

the hills are alive...

Day one in Crossville for a production of The Sound of Music at the Cumberland County Playhouse.  We open February 10 and close April 7.  I'll be able to go home every weekend, and so far this is working out great.  I plan to blog about the experience here, so get for some personal entries as we find out how to bring the Captain out of his shell.  The cast members I've met are great, and my old friend Brenda Bruce Frye is the Mother Abbess.  Stay tuned!
